    Hi all

Not sure where or if this forums handles Medical Aid queries
but if you do, can someone advise where to post or point me to
    the correct forum.

    Cheers everyone.

Hi Rozzer, it would depend mostly on what the question is so just post it where you think it might be relevant and we can always move it later if necessary.

      Hi AndyD

      Thanks for your advice.

My question is:- If I am the main member of a medical aid and I go over to the other side,
to meet my maker.....can my wife take over where i left as regards to payments
etc and she will then become the main member as it were? and carry with the
same payment plan that i had or is this a matter i must discuss with the M.A.

If anyone has any advice or info i would be grateful of it.

      Kind regards

      Rozzer

        What a good question.
I would guess the MA have allowances to shuffle the dependents up the order.
There would be no need for more tests, questions etc.

On a separate, yet related issue that is worth mentioning, is to have cashflow for these type of things. Many people hit a tough spot on a deathbed the estate is frozen and no cashflow. Often occurs with home loans. The estate could be worth millions but the survivoryhas no cash income to pay the monthly payment.

Yes, your Adviser should do that on your behalf.

Below is an extract from my documents

As stated by the Medical Schemes Act (Act No 131 of 1998), all medical schemes must provide for continuation of membership when
a principal member retires from employment or in the event of his/her death to allow the surviving beneficiaries to remain or
          become members.

The following documentation is required in the event of death:

          • Certified copy of death certificate of the principal member, who is deceased
          • Certified Copy of ID of deceased principal member
          • Certified Copy of ID of new principal member
          • Letter from surviving spouse/dependants indicating new principal member(s)
          • Banking details of new principal member(s) for contribution collection
          • Signed declaration of new principal member(s) (Section 6 of the membership application form)

Hope you find the above useful

            Hi Rafael
Thanks to all you guys for your advice and input so far.
My apologies for the long delay in responding but I was waiting my MA to respond
and it does seem that it is possible but it's quite a tricky situation as the new MAIN member
has to take on all debts etc of the previous Main member and indemnify the MA.
It will take a little while to read the small print and i will get back to you all.

            Kind regards

            Rozzer
