These are old, but they are still fun for those that have not seen them before.

1. Three guys go out for a bite to eat, they each have R10. The bill comes to R25 and each fella hands his R10 to the waiter. On his way back to the table with the R5 change the waiter thinks, "R5 does not divide easily into three, I will put R2 in my pocket", he does this and gives each of the fellas R1 change. Here's the calculation:

Each fella has paid R10(original funds) minus R1(change) = R9(total)
3(fellas) multiplied by R9 = R27(total paid for meal)
R27 + R2(waiters pocket tip) = R29
Where is the missing R1?

2. If a hunter starts walking Due South from his house for 5Km and shoots a bear, he turns Left 90Deg. and walks a further 5Km, where he shoots another bear. He turns Left 90Deg. and walks a further 5Km and is back at his home.
Where does he live?
What colour are the bears?

No wonder I'm so tired, I've been blaming it on age, poor blood,lack of vitamins, air pollution, saccharin, obesity, dieting, and other maladies that make you wonder if life, really is worth living. But I
found out it ain't that. I'm tired because I'm over-worked.

1. The population of this country is 4 million.
2. 1 million are retired.
3. That leaves 3 million to do the work.
4. There are 1 million in school and college.
5. That leaves 2 million to do the work.
6. 250,000 are unemployed and 750,000 are employed by the Government.
7. That leaves 1 million to do the work.
8. 200,000 are in the armed forces, Aer Rianta and Aer Lingus,leaving 800,000 to do the work.
9. 200,000 are employed by the county council leaving 600,000 to do the work.
10. There are 420,000 people in hospital and 179,998 in prison.
11. That leaves 2 people to do the work.

You and me.

And you're sitting on your azz reading this, and that leaves me to do all the work.

No wonder I'm so tired!!

And here's one that needs a little thought, also quite old, but a good test of one's observation based on the facts to hand.

An electric train leaves JHB at 60Kms/hour headed for Cape Town, at the same time a Diesel train leaves CapeTown at 40Km/hour headed for JHB, at the point where the train locomotives intersect, which train is furthest from JHB?

The R30 meal is just a play on numbers and the way one calculates. The info given that each has paid R9 is, in fact, incorrect if the waiters "tip" is then added, the R9 already includes the R2. So, each has actually paid (R25 div. 3), R8.33333333..., X 3 equals R24.99999999... plus R2, equals R26.999999999..., plus R3.00 (change) equals R29.9999999999999999.., Isn't maths funny? They still haven't got their R30 value.

Of course the correct calculation would be 3x9=27 plus R3 change, = R30.00 on the nail. (Ignore the waiters R2 tip, it's already included in the R9 calculation).

Nope, think a little longer... In fact, your "diagram" shows the answer quite graphically. 'tis none but the Diesel train that is furthest.

I also get the same distance. Intersect=meet cross lines. Where they meet on the track the distance from Joburg would be equal. Not sure if direction has anything to do with the answer.

Aaah yes, but the statement says "at the point where the locomotives intersect...". The point is not to assume anything, a locomotive pulls a series of carriages that are the train, the locos are not the train, they only pull it. At the point where the locos intersect, the train is still behind the respective loco, therefore, the JHB-CT train (by virtue of it's speed) has travelled further than the CT-JHB train, but it is still closer to JHB than the other train. The diesel train (CT-JHB) is thus still further from JHB.

The powers of observation are still relevant even in our imagination, and therefore, our interpretation of a question. I'm sure this is something that lawyers get used to, I. E. not assuming anything...

I live on the 15th floor of a building.
Each day I catch the elevator to the 10th floor and walk take the stairs to the 15th. The elevator goes to the 15th. I am no doing it for health. Why the 10th.

A mix between English/Maths/logic...

There appears to be nothing in the statement that relates to a reason for you to take the stairs, but I haven't yet examined all the options/reasons... lol

1. The buttons 11 to 15 are busted
2. You have a fetish for stairs above 10th
3. Can only count to ten
4. Are too short to reach the higher buttons and/or left your high-heels on the bus
5. Your favourite views are out the stairwell windows from floors 10 through 15
6. Others... (to follow)
