    Internet connectivity ?

In my area we have a serious problem with internet. Have had iburst. It was crap. Have tried mtn and Vodacom and the signal strength is terrible. Then moved to adsl Telkom and was told the reason why it was so slow was because we are too far from the exchange !
After some investigation in our area with other people, it appears that 8ta is the way to go. Numerous people have it in our area and only one person seems to have had a problem. So I am thinking of going with the H5331 modem with has a 21.6mbs speed. This is a Wi-Fi modem so I will be able to connect with all our devices in the house. Any thoughts on this ?

I suggest try to test your location using someone else's 8ta modem first.

Read my post carefully before you change to Telkom mobile formally known as 8ta, it could have something to do with me being on the Telkom mix package, but my experience with these clowns, I have now decided to try legal advice. It is as bad as having a Virgin mobile contract if no worse. If it is just for private use and have lots of time on your hands to go back and forth then try it. I get between 5-9 Mbps on MTN 3G sim card and between 0.1 and 0.7 Mbps on my Telkom mobile (8ta) sim card

By the way you can buy one of those modems from Makro for R999.

You should be looking at the E5332 it has an external attenna interface for better signal.

I am starting to get the feeling that Telkom mobile is piggy backing with MTN...so if there was no WTN signal I didn't think you would get signal with Telkom mobile (8ta)

You could consider satellite. Obviously it's more expensive than any of the ADSL or 3G options, but it does work (except when there's weather interference much like satellite TV).

Found changing 90cm dish to a 3m dish significantly reduced storm issues ;-) fewer complaints about interference
to rebroadcasting of radio and TV programs to our rural remote community (loudest received when sports programs on).
