Cloud Atlas - What just happened?

Has anybody watched Cloud Atlas yet?

We went to watch it last night as it came highly recommended by over 17000 people around the world, with an average rating of 8.2/10. Tom Hanks, Halle Berry - sounds like a decent cast, right?

After sitting through the 2 and a half hour movie, all I have to say is WTF.

Can somebody more intelligent either explain to me what on earth was going on or, failing that, put my mind at ease and tell me that 17000 people were high when watching the movie, which is why it might have made sense to them.

I am going to watch it this weekend. I it that the moving is boring? or that you not finding the connections in it? Cause if the movie is no good, I will just wait to watch it on dvd, but if it is just complex then I will watch it at the movie house. A few of my friends that watched it, say that it was better on a second watching.

Did you like Inception? That was complex.

Put it this way - I thought Inception was brilliant. Cloud Atlas, on the other hand? I couldn't wait for it to end. A few people even left the cinema before it ended.

You just keep waiting for everything reach a logical conclusion, the stories to combine. You keep waiting for things to make sense, the "Aha!" moment. But it doesn't happen, ever.

I wouldn't watch it again if you paid me to.

I really enjoyed inception. think I will just wait for Cloud Atlas on DVD. The idea of 2 hours 45mins in the cinema is not appealing, but I do enjoy the wachowski movies, they always have a good meta-narrative to it.

              Hi Guys,

In my opinion when a movie reaches the cinemas it had cost ex amount to produce. But not necessarily be the finest movie of all times so when a movie entering the cinemas and was viewed by only 17000 people across the world you can expect the worst.

Maybe the problem existed with the combination of actors chosen for the role or the wrong movie director?

Thanks Mark. I will now definitely give it a skip when the wife and I go out for our weekly movie night.

It seems everything was not connected in the end, I dare say?

I'm sure it was viewed by more than 17000 people. It was reviewed by 17000 people, which is a significant number.

It's not even that the acting was bad - it wasn't terrible. The plot just didn't gel with me.

Glad I helped you dodge a bullet.

The thing is, it feels like everything should have been connected, but nothing seemed resolved at the end.

Reading the plot overview, it sounds really awesome. It sounds like it could be a great movie. Now, either owing to my ignorance or bad directing/screenplay, I just didn't understand what was going on. There are so many different threads running throughout the whole movie that just don't seem to come to a resolution.

Maybe they don't give enough introduction to each of the characters and his/her relationship with "themselves" in the parallel universes/time periods. Maybe it's only for extreme intellectuals.
