    PAYE/UIF/SDL submission date

Anyone notice that the due date for PAYE/SDL/UIF is 2007/04/05 for this month? Any ideas why?

The 5th April is the last ordinary working weekday on or before the 7th.

As an aside but sort of related, we're into that 4 day working week time of year again
    Participation is voluntary.

DOH! Eish, working for yourself does tend to numb you to public holidays

There is a move to recognise all "religious" groups rights to their public holidays.
Jewish, Muslim & Hindu "spokespersons" are very pleased that they will no longer be discriminated against!
In my opinion we already have too many public holidays.

I wonder if we will end up going something along the lines of the Yanks - AFAIK they have a few national holidays (such as Thanksgiving), and then you can select a certain number of religious holidays. Do you think that would be a practice which would cause disruption in the workplace (due to staggered holidays), or would it provide a reasonable compromise?

Frankly, that makes a lot of sense. The main problem then is the actual number of days needed per religion. We can't have unfair discrimination or preferential treatment based on religion
Then we have the agnostics, etc. Clearly they are entitled to the same number of days off despite the fact that it is not for religious reasons.

From an operations point of view it shoud not be too much of a challenge. Shift operation arrangements already have systems in place that make public holidays pretty well irrelevant. For the rest, a planning challenge just like leave and the way things were before.
