    [Question] TAX - un-employed

    Afternoon all...

I was unemployed for a large part of last year. I basically lived off my pension payout....

I did do some temporary work along the way and my employer did take off tax for the time I worked with him, but now he is not around to issue me an IRP 5.... I also don't have any payslips from him.

I know I need to still fill in a tax return as I am a registered tax payer. But how do I declare it?

I still took out Medical - so I am hoping the tax man will give me something back....

    Tks

Scary Elaine, I hope your employer did pay the tax he has been deducting from you. I just spoke to a friend of mine who works at SARS and she told me that the least you can do is go to any branch, inform them of your predicament and they will give you a letter of demand which you take to your employer. Companies don't have a right to not give IRP5 to their employees.

I support Modise's advice, although just why your temporary employer is not around to issue the IRP5 seems pretty relevant here.
      Participation is voluntary.
