Hi GUys

I am self employed..have small profits a year, hence
I cannot afford an accountant.I am looking for some document
or book that can help me with tax.I have downloaded all the stuff from
the SARS website but it does not give you information like if
you work from home how much can you claim as rent etc and also
medical aid/ pension etc...

Someone mentioned that there is a book available for SA tax payers
but I cannot get the title

Hi Kimmy

I haven't seen an information page from SARS, but what you can do is have a look at the income tax act - www.acts.co.za but then again, it's a lot of information.

You can ask questions i will be more than willing to help. With regards to rent - you have to do a pro rata calculation. e.g. if your rent is R4000 p/m and you use say 10 square meters out of 40 square meters for business purposes, you will take 10/40 x 4000 giving you R1000 deductible for rent purposes a month. Electricity and water works on the same basis.

It's a bit difficult explaining the medical aid - you can get those from the sars website - http://www.sars.gov.za/home.asp?pid=11143 use the IT12 comprehensive guide, same goes for pension fund

It's a bit difficult explaining the stuff, seeing that i don't know your figures, or how many people on your medical aid etc.
