Trust fund

I am the sole beneficiary of a trust fund. I total inheritance is less than R 900,000. I left RSA in September 1995. My last tax return was February 1996 and I received a refund of about R10,000. I have been unable to find my tax reference number. I have phoned SARS and requested my tax number. I have quoted them both of my ID numbers and they assure me there is no number on their records. Two questions - 1. Does the trust fund or I have to pay tax on the amount? 2. Do I need a tax number to receive the payment.?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
