If the employee requests it, I don't think the employer can refuse to pay it into the account of a third party. Couple of scenarios:
1. Husband has lots of debt and as soon as the salary hits his bank account the funds are transferred to his creditors. Could be a "valid" reason to pay into the wife's bank account
2. Husband and wife are estranged and wife feels the husband owes her money. She can't ask the husband's employer to pay the salary into her account.
I can't see a problem with it, but think the main point is that the employer has his paperwork in order should he want to pay into a third party bank account. This is not to say that paperwork shouldn't be in order in the first place
