ETI Unclaimed - How far back can one claim and to whom does it apply?

Good Morning All

- ETI has not been claimed at my company since the start, can I back date claims?
- Does this refer to everyone between 18 and 29 on the Payroll or only persons employed under learnerships whom we pay stipends?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated - each call centre agent has a different answer, I guess it's not their forte, I hope someone on this Forum can give me better guidance.

That may be closer to the truth than anyone at SARS is prepared to admit. About two years ago I was having enormous trouble jumping through the ETI hoops to recover a perfectly legitimate claim that had fallen out of the "regular groove". It turned out there were only two people at the Gateway office that had any real understanding of ETI claims handling, and even with their assistance it took nearly a year of correspondence and I'd estimate over 20 hours of time in total at their offices or on the phone to get it resolved. Which would have the recovery valued at under R100 per hour for my time, significantly lower than my billing rate.

After some serious hunting, I found this useful gem from Sage here -

From March 2017 if the employer does not claim the ETI amount they are entitled to within the 6 month
cycle (for example they forgot to or any other case), then the ETI will be nil (0.00) after the 6 month cycle
and the employer will not receive ETI as a refund and cannot back-date the ETI claims if the 6 month
cycle has elapsed. This is only applicable when the employer did not claim the ETI amount they are
entitled to.
