    Hi tanaka,

Yes, you would be able to claim the travel allowance on your ITR12, but you would need to keep a detailed logbook of your travels.

Link to the SARS prescribed logbook

SARS collects taxes & customs. File returns, check balances & find branches. We build a compliant & prosperous South Africa.

@tanaka, also check with your employer which percentage of your income the PAYE is calculated on,80% or 20%, as it would be best if this were as close as possible to your actual % travelled, so that at yearend your assessment breaks more or less even.

Lastly, note that traveling from work to home and back is not deemed to be business km.

        Hope you managed!

If you do not claim your business kilometres in yoyr tax return, you will pay in, as the travel allowance was only taxed up to 80%.
