    Provident Contributions on IRP5

    Hi all,

Can somebody please confirm whether code 4003 under deductions on an IRP5 should contain just an employee's Provident Fund contributions or those of both employer and employee? Surely it's just employee as 4473 is for the employer's contribution. It can't be deducted twice... I ask as my IRP5 has it in both lines.

    Thanks in advance.

Both employer & employee contributions, it seems.

It isn't deducted twice. Code 4497 really acts as a control total for the data above it.

I know it seems odd, but it is correct.

Thanks. Not deducted twice even though 4497 (Total Deductions & Contributions) includes it twice?

        To clarify -

Code 3825, 4003 & 4473 relate to provident fund contributions.
Codes 3825 & 4473 should have the value of the employer's contribution.
4003 should have the sum value of the employee's contribution and the employer's contribution.

I found a 2016 Guide for Codes Applicable to Employees Tax Certificates quite informative. (I couldn't find a 2017 edition.)

As I mentioned previously, 4497 seems to be a control total (of information reported) rather than a figure reflecting the total of deductions allowed.
        Participation is voluntary.
