    I hate paying taxes

I really do, everything is taxed leaving very little for yourself. And in SA we pay double for everything...government health care and medical aid...police department then ADT private security...public roads and eTolls...there Excise duty, VAT, CGT, fuel levy's, income tax, dividends tax...

The tax I hate the most is income tax, I get stiffed on my salary every month, with inflation (another form of tax), it become harder and harder to make it every year.

I wish they would abolish income tax and hike VAT to 20% to offset, that way everyone gets stiffed based on their spending habits and not on their earning habits and basement dwellers like me could live the life.

The flat rate tax is compelling and taxes consumption not production which is great. Libertarians love it, but it doesn't go down so well with populists as you can't favour the masses at the cost of the minorities.

In the US there is an organisation called FairTax that reckons a flat 23% tax on all consumption would be enough to cover the fiscus. You can read up about it at http://fairtax.org/. There'd also be a massive saving on tax admin and enforcement.

I wouldn't hold my breath though...

Gald you mentioned libertarianism...as you say it's not something the masses want, socialism will always extract from the productive population to provide more free goodies for the lazy.
