    [Question] Dividends received taxable?

    Hi there

If I receive a report from my collective investments scheme and there is a section for foreign dividends / interest.. Are these dividends and interest treated as income from SA source because the CIS in registered in SA (dividends therefore not taxable on IT12)? Thanx

CIS, might have invested in foreign investments thus those income streams are not a source of income in South Africa. If your IT3(b) Tax certificate indicates you received foreign interest and dividends, you must declare it on your ITR12 as such. You receive an exemption of R3700 on foreign interest and dividends, after that it is taxable. If there was withholding tax on these foreign income you may claim a tax relief on them.
