    Claiming Km's as Independent Contractor

    Hi there,

If a person is employed as an Independent Contractor, but the employment is to be done at a fixed address, can the km's be claimed or is it seen as to and from the office travel?

    Thanks!

I suppose it will depend on whether you want to claim from SARS or the client.

If you want to claim from the client, the agreed fee should be included in the contract. If you want to claim from SARS the normal rules will apply.

Thank you! Client is claiming the travel as an expense in personal capacity. I know that driving from home to work is not claimable in personal capacity if you earn a travel allowance, but what if you are an independent contractor - does it not then mean you can claim?
