[Question] Non SA resident with no local bank - how to get tax refund of my salary for 2012-2013

    Hi All,

My name is Sanjay, worked in South Africa for more than 2 years. In July 2012 moved back to India. So I closed all my accounts in South Africa.

Today I tried to file my tax on SARS website, while doing so I need to provide my bank details there, but I can not give as I dont have any in SA. Now I got 17,000 as refund after doing tax calculation. How do I get this money?

    Please help me.

    Thanks
    Sanjay

Sounds like you are needing someone with a SA account to deposit the funds into ? .............

I doubt it, the account would have to be in your own name.
You can call or ask your friends to call SARS on 0800 00 7277 to find out

You can use a third party account; the system caters for it. Problem is because it represents a change, they will request you to go to a branch and verify the details which is not an option. But it is worth a try.

              You must be careful there.

Play the game right, or don't play at all.

If you want your "friends" to represent you, SARS will make you give them power of attorney. The account still has to be on your name as I remember - there is a lot of fraud going on.

Not so. I have clients who employ expats from all over the world. Many cannot open local bank accounts and they then use 3rd party accounts.

All of SARS' software is able to deal with this. So too decent payroll systems.

The problem arises when you change banking details; in most cases SARS requires that you visit a branch and confirm the change in person.
