[Question] who do I owe

A company I owed a small amount of money to was recently taken over by one of their competitors - do I now have to pay the new company ?

I am not sure of the legals but I would definitely make sure I keep proof of payment and if possible get a letter\invoice stating the account has been settled!

My take you owe the money to the company. Who owns that company won't have anything to do with that.
But then is it ever that simple.
