Banking details over the phone

I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post this question so if it is the wrong place I'm sorry.
I've been applying online for a personal loan and I keep receiving phone calls from loan providers and they need my bank account number, ID number ect, now I've read a couple of times that you shouldn't give out those personal details over the phone, are they allowed to ask you your details over the phone?

If you have been applying online, then you would have filled in your details, therefore if they are phoning you asking for these details they are clearly other company's/loan sharks that have picked up that you are applying for a loan, therefore you should not give then any details over the phone.
