"If you want someone done right ...do it yourself" ... I live by this ... in reality ... it is a fools statement ... if you want to be a one man band and work out the white bakkie for the rest of your life ... this statement could work for you.

If you want to grow and move away from being a one man band ... best you learn to employ and train people to be as good as you expect them to be ... employees make and break companies.

Take the time to figue out what employees thrive at ... and also the ones who bring the team down ... I believe everyone is good at something ... its up to you to figue it out ... if you think someone os "stupid" ... they probably doing a job they hate ...but neeed the income.

This you need to write down:

Time management recording ... and product procurement ... these 2 things are a trademans worse enemy.

I am sure all the sparkies will agree that this is what gets us all ... we dont keep proper records of time on site and materials purchased ... these 2 items will break you.

Make sure before you even consider your very first site visit ...

You have a service sheet in place which records details of the time spent on site and an order number system for every single item purchased for the project ... no matter how big or small ... which is signed every single day or before you leave a site ... if jobbing (multiple sites in one day) ...get slack on this and you might as well throw money out the window as you drive ... its the same thing.

The next thing is something I am busy trying to sort out ... a payment system ... a way for the customer to pay before you leave site ... there are many options ... its finding the one which will not cost an arm and a leg ... works efficiently and suitable for everyone

Or get a Cellphone credit card reader. Speak to your bank. Every one has either a Debit card or Credit card. Get the payment before you leave the site. Do a google search.

Why do some people not want to pay?
I mean if they accept the quote they know what they need to fork out when job is complete.

            I don't understand some people.

Cos that's how how they get stuff for free, at the expense of others.

                It's in their genes.
That's why we, who are still in business and have been for over 25 years, insist on up front payments.

                Peace out ... Derek

You have alot to learn ... I could write a book on just this topic and the excuses people ahev used for non payment.

The cheques in the post ... the oldest excuse.

The accountant is away for a couple weeks.

A new one ... the accountant or person who authourises payments is off with covid.

Waiting for the bank to release the loan.

You didnt fit a screw on one cover in the roof ... so we are with holding payment.

I asked you for a quote ... I didnt tell you to go ahead with the job.

The husband gives the wife the cash to pay ... she blows the cash.

There are so many I could be here all day.

The bottom line ... you get honest people who pay and then you get the rest.

There are some people who will always pay 60- 80 % and never pay the balance.

Then you get the ones who pay cash and feel it automatically gives them the right to leave out the vat.

Payments are not the worse theing that can happen when working in the domestic enviroment ... thats another thread on its own.

Bored wives left at home ... something you need to be very careful of ... always make sure there is at least 2 people working in residential homes ... the more money the more you need to be careful ... there have been a few incidents.

Walking into the house to do work and wife is sitting talking on the phone with very little to cover the body ... nothing happed but you need to be very carefyul ... especially in this day and age ... with Jealous husbands and small cameras mounted everywhere which can record video and audio ... there are many factors which could result in non payment.

The wife was banging the gardener but didnt want her hubby to find out it was the gardener ... and it wasnt me ... but she went to a few extremes.

Like I said non payments are a minor concern when working in domestic envronments or under desk in offices etc ... let me go do some work.
