[Question] Inverter's and earth leakage

Hi,

I recently had an inverter installed that supplies a portion of the office during load shedding (lights and computers). Following the installation, we noticed that when plugging appliances into some of the sockets which are not on the inverter circuit causes the inverter earth leakage and the main incomer earth leakage to trip. We replaced the plugs but the problem is still there.

Any ideas what could be the problem.

It sounds like the inverter may be incorrectly connected, it's difficult to say without a lot more info and maybe some photos of the connections etc. Can't you get the installers back to find the problem?

And did the installers issue you with an electrical Certificate of Compliance for the alteration to the installation?

In addition to the above it could also be an unbalanced neutral, which means that one or more plug neutrals (the ones that trips when load is connected) is not connected (Both Live and Neutral) through the Earth Leakage. Time to wire that Inverter and db box correctly :-)

Yup, definitely an unbalanced neutral on some of those sockets.
