Thank you bergie recieved this message From the ecbsa last week make any sense to anybody
Good Day,
We note that your Registration as an Electrical Contractor has expired.
PLEASE READ THE IMPORTANT INFORMATION BELOW ON THE NEW REGISTRATION PROCESS.
As from 1 September 2012, the ECBSA is no longer mandated to do the registration of Electrical Contractors, this function is now being performed by the Department of Labour (DOL).
The ECBSA is now offering a Voluntary Listing to all contractors, once they have obtained their mandatory DOL registration certificates.
Currently there is NO national data base available from the DOL , which makes confirming your contractor registration extremely difficult, whereas the ECB’s Voluntary Listing will be national and can be verified on our website.
Information as supplied by the DOL:
DEPARTMENT OF LABOUR: BANKING DETAILS
*FNB :- ACCOUNT 6202 513 5577
*BRANCH CODE :- 25 - 31 - 45
*REFERENCE :- OHS-EIR- ……………………..( Contractor's Name)
*FEES :- R120.00 ( Annually)
It is for anyone who wants to pay R350 for electronic COC's and so that you can register with the ECB, because the DOL haven't quite figured out how the whole thing works yet, so people cant check to see if you are registered or not, by paying the R350 people can check that you are registered. Oh by the way you still have to pay the R120 to the DOL, so they can get a piece of the action.
Comments are based on opinion...not always facts....that's why people use an alias.

The ECA has told me to ignore any correspondence from the now defunct ECB altogether
To make a mistake is human, to learn from that mistake is knowledge and knowledge is strength.

Politics can really screw things up.
The ECB is trying to stay relevant, and if the ECA woke up, can still do things to the benefit of the industry that the ECA can't do itself directly - such as maintain a list of all registered contractors. Obviously the ECA is kinda narrowed down to promoting members - which is something a little different. You can have both.

I wish someone could offer me a clear explanation of the present role of the ECB. I originally thought that their function was absorbed by the DOL and they were dissolved, obviously not.
Are they a government department?
