Dept of Labour - signing off on own work

Department of labour says you cannot sign off electrical work done by yourself , its has to be done by another person . Is this correct ?

An accredited person (wireman) can sign off their own work.

But you did have me wondering whether that question came out the way you intended.

I am waiting for DOL to come back to me on this but from what I understood from them you cannot sign off your own electrical work.
If they do get back to me I will give feedback on this , as this has affect on contractors doing electrical installations and signing off their own work

sounds ridiculous. i wouldnt sign for somebody else and i would have to find somebody to sign for me.

What's the point of becoming registered if you can't sign off your own work? It doesn't make sense to me, maybe you were misinformed or misunderstood.

The short answer is yes and no.
If the installation work is vast and the point of supply is intended to supply more than 5 users eg., a set of townhouses then an AIA must be employed to oversee the work done and issue the electrical certificate. An AIA may not work as an electrical contractor.
Any other work is done as per normal.

Where the intention is to supply five or more users from a point of supply, the user shall appoint an approved inspection
authority for electrical installations, or a person deemed competent in terms of paragraphs (b), (c)
or (d) of the definition of competent person in regulation 1 of the General Machinery Regulations,
1988, or a person registered in a professional category on terms of the Engineering Profession
Act 2000, who shall ensure the compliance contemplated in subregulation (1) from the
commencement to the commissioning of the electrical installation.”
