    Foreign contract for services

My sales rep comes to me all excited with a potentially lucrative approach by email. And here it is:
    From: Myles Dugenfelder [mailto:dugenfelder4@yahoo.co.uk]

    Subject: Re: Pest control contract

    Dear CBxxxxxx ,

Greetings! My name is Myles Dugenfelder, an Australian contractor working with Sicogi, a road construction company and I am also a commission agent. Presently I am in Ivory Coast for a road construction contract that will last through the end of the year.

First, I must let you know the essence of this contact and how it shall benefit both of us. From the information I got from the Federal Ministry of Environs & Agriculture, here in Abidjan state the Southern Ivory Coast, the government is about awarding a Pest Control Contract to any reputable company with International Standard that can come to Ivory Coast to execute a contract.

Furthermore, the pest control contract is going to take place in the abandoned Grasshoppers International Hand Ball Stadium, “Stade International De Boule De Main De Sauterelles” where the company will start working on the clean up of the stadium and environs, also evacuation of pests, termites, cockroaches, rats etc... Are to take place because that's the proposed venue for the up-coming sports festival to take affect Soon.

The said area occupied 22 acres of land space including the games village. Can your company handle such a big contract? I am introducing you based on commission bases; I will help your company with the help of my friend in the ministry to make sure this contract will be awarded to your company.

Be informed that the ministry will be responsible for contacting the Ivory Coast embassy in your country to help facilitate your travelling documents, such as the issuance of your visas to Ivory Coast depending on how many field workers coming for the job. I want you to quote your price for this contract and add my commission, the ministry will pay 100% advance before the contract begins and payments are only done by Bank Transfer, my friend in the ministry will use his weight in the office to make sure this contract is awarded in your company's name.

Let me know if you can handle such a big contract and also let me know if you can be able to come to Ivory Coast. I can be reached at any time on +225-01-63-44-91 that's my mobile number in Ivory Coast.

Thanks so much for your time,

    All the best,

    Egnr. Myles Dugenfelder.

So, I do a little Google and it doesn't take long to find a rather similar offer titled Pest Control Partnership. To save clicking and to cover that the page might disappear one day, it goes like this:

Well. Our Mr Dugenfelder from Australia believes that any similarity between his approach and that of Mr Dugenfelder from British Honduras some two years ago is purely coincidental

Clearly Mr. Dugenfelder has been working the South African list. I've had quite a few people email me and ask me what I think. I've been posting them a link to this thread in reply.

I thought I'd include this latest one I got.

          Hi Dave,

This is that guy from the ivory Coast’s explanation as to the findings that you placed in the forumsa..

Can you please reply with your opinion...

          -----

I pity the poor person who really does have the same name as a scammer/spammer. When someone (e.g. company looking to hire the person) does an internet search on the name....

What a horrid thought. I think I better google my name and see what comes up. The problem is what can you do about it.

I guess the only thing you really can do is establish a healthy online image for yourself which you have control of. At least you can then show who you are, and how you are not the same person.

You'd never guess what's number one for myles dugenfelder on Google right now...

And unfortunately there appears to be a perfectly genuine fellow of the same name. But to be honest you can spot the difference in the writing style without even trying that hard.

I AM MYLES DUGENFELDER!!! I AM THE GUY THAT CREATED HIM!!

OMG!! I just did an internet search for my name (for no reason at all) and your site was the first that came up.

I will let you into a story, a long time ago i had a nigerian scammer try to scam me out of cash, i live in uk and i KNEW the scammer was an absolute idiot. I so created my own fake British Honduras passport to convince the guy i was actually a Honduras citizen. (I no longer have my forged passports as i had a hard drive failure last year and i lost everything! )

The nigerian fell for it but looking at things I am guessing he told his friends who decided to do some more work but this time use my name

Also you don't need to worry about my name being used, It is an online pseudonym i use for scammers and spam websites or for sending mails to webmasters when i am just basically telling them the truth but i know how hard some people can take things!

My friend and i created the name one evening when we wanted to create a completely fictitious over the top American sounding name

Looks like even the scammers got scammed

Thanks for posting this up, I am glad to see the scammers actually try to do evolve their terrible efforts

                      You have made my day!

                      Thanks again!

Call me stupid, but where is the payoff for mr "miles of digging in the veld"?

I received the well known UK Lottery scam not too long ago and, as I have UK lottery tickets, I asked for more info, thinking that I might actually be a winner!
It wasn't long before the "you need to pay 3500 pounds sterling up front before we can issue the claim certificate" line set off the bells and whistles, needless to say I did win, 3500 Pounds that I just left in my own bank account and rather sent them an Interpol employee.

There are the expenses to grease the wheels for starters. A lavish reception, little gifts of appreciation to an endless stream of final decision makers. Then I suppose lawyers for the legal problems....
