On a more serious note: what do you mean exactly by "Personal selling"

I'm referring to the current field sales approach adopted by majority of Wholesalers who supply into retail and other industries such as manufacturing etc. using Ext. Sales people to conduct client visits, face to face selling (Personal Selling)...

Well of late I've been getting a lot of Zoom, MS Teams and Google Meet presentations from sales reps online when I am exploring a product. In days gone by it would have all been face-to-face in-person meetings. Initially this change was due to lockdown. However, it seems to have become embedded - and frankly, I prefer it.

So funny how businesses spend money on advertising and cars, phones etc for sales reps but then do not follow up on customer calls or leads.
I had my shower door broken off and wanted to replace or get a new shower. Also a quote on a new guest bathroom shower.
I contacted 5 companies. One came the following day. One couldn't come because of Covid and 3 made promises and then never pitched.

I place 3 orders with a supplier and get no reply. On follow up they tell me that they are busy with a stock-take and cannot attend to the order now. Over month-end in the middle of the week!!

You call a business about a product or service advertised and their response is unenthusiastic and sounds as if they are doing you a favour. Do people not realise that any successful business is built on customer service?
Excellence is not a skill; its an attitude...

Slow or no response from business owners is endemic on its own here in South Africa...

I think business owners don't pay enough attention to employee training. Often there are many newcomers in the sales department who are simply not able to help the client. I myself worked in such a company and saw the state of the sales department ... A sad sight
