This may be referring to the labeling of products as per the consumer protection act.

A quick note to thank Andy who sent me a pdf to upload on the server via FTP as it was too big to use the normal vBulletin tools to upload. However, as it turns out the file contains the same regulation notice that roryf has linked too above so I won't be posting a link to the file on the TFSA server.

Also to let you know, it's a 2MB download folks.

                Excerpt from the Legalbrief, today.

Legislation: Consultant claims food labelling law has ‘backfired’
The new food labelling legislation that came into effect on 1 March has such stringent regulations regarding nutritional labelling that consumers will be left with even less information on food products, according to an expert quoted in a Daily Dispatch report. The law requires companies to use laboratories to do detailed chemical analysis of their food and use a wide sample of the product that would reveal different suppliers of the ingredients. Food scientist and consultant Nigel Sunley said the nutritional aspect of the new food laws have ‘backfired’ and that the Department of Health did not think carefully about the ‘implications of the wording’. It is cheaper for companies not to volunteer any breakdown of nutritional information at all, he said. He added many other aspects of the food laws were positive and the clamping down on health claims made by foods was positive. The report notes any food packaging designed after 1 March will be designed to reflect the new regulations.

I am finding this with most of the new laws. It seems they are making them for the sake of supposedly doing something, instead of understanding the implications of the proposed legislation. Ir seems that the law makers do not understand law but are making laws.

Correct. People see something overseas and then say "hey lets do that." without changing or adapting to the SA "market.
The second part is governments disinterest in listening to comments from law soceity and knowledgeable people.
Eg: Secrecy bill - the concept aside, the bill is not going to stand constitutional scrutiny, has definetely failed to listne to the public but will in all probability still be passed...go figure (and then money wasted on legal fees defending the constitutionality of the bill. The court should order costs form the personal pockets not from the state - (this was recently done in the Gauteng high court against some policemen, they were ordered to pay the costs personally, a welcome decision)

This will definitely deter the setting up commissions to investigate previously set up commissions who have not performed.
Majola and company should pay for their own defense, and if they win the case, then and only then reimburse the legal costs, not the other way round. He definitely has more than enough bonus money to cover the legal cost. This will make him think twice before embarking on the legal road when he clearly knows that he is guilty.
