    Yet another public holiday!

I see government has seen fit to give a bonus public holiday on 27 December this year.

It's so easy to spend other people's money!

Yip my staff at my fast food outlet where very quick to point this out to me!

So how exactly does this fit into the 2020 plan for job growth and economic development?

OK we had an extra public holiday for the elections now we lose out on Christmas holiday falling on a Sunday.
Then there was the winter electricity rates which led to 2 restaurants next to me closing. What are the next shocks we should brace for?

Yes, in a month with so many holidays already, it is difficult to understand the reasoning. Oh wait, there is no logic in most decisions taken by this government.

The plan to solve that one is already sorted (much like the 2015 developmental goals which they've already given up on) - just launch the 2030 job growth and development goal in 2019.

The current goal is keeping their own jobs in parliament (which pays quite well by all accounts).

Much like some posters before me, my staff wasted no time booking their extra day's paid leave...

The cost may not be a day's GDP as suggested in the article I linked to, but make no mistake there is a price - and business is footing the bill!

Not all of it, I've taken a 'no more Mr Nice Guy' approach. I've taken a good portion of the extra cost for us out of the end of year discressionary bonus pot. What this does mean unfortunately is it will hit the good staff hardest because although their percentage of the pot will remain the same their actual bonus money would have been bigger.

Really disappointing especially since it was done on the 14th December after all my planning and rosters where in place like many other businesses. I had to now go back and redo a fair portion of planning.

I know how you feel, I have to pay additional now for staff working that day, had to beg one of them to work and had to deny leave till the 9th Jan for the rest that applied yesterday, and had to cancel leave for another .... *SIGH*

At the end of the day, if there is not enough staff, the tasks fall on management, and seeing as I'm one of two on duty ... means I have no holiday

welcome to the world of self employment...man its a dogs life...and people believe if you own a company you are automatically rich...i must have lost the plot somewhere because 21 years later i am still not rich...i could only afford a R20 00 christmas present this year a R10 000 on some new machines for my workshop and another R10 000 for materials for my new hobby...which will hopefully turn into a bussiness early next year...however i do have a plan and maybe even some goals and a bucket list...considering decmber 2012 is only one year away...have already booked my accomadation in the berg for december next year.
