    helping a friend

I have this friend thats struggling to find work. She got fired from her previous company in march, they bought her a car but made her pay every month for it, so when they fired her they took it back. she has used up the money that they paid her for it, all of 20000 rand. now shes in a situation where shes got no car, no licence, no qualifications and she cant seem to get her foot in the dorr anywhere to better her situation. everywhere she has tried decline her cv. Im tryin to help her get into something that will allow her to grow in the company or to study part time. But finding a job in south africa is tough, especially if you are white. Does anybody have any advice for me on where i can look or what industry i should try get her into.

to be honest im not 100% sure why she got fired. but the whole company seemed to be a bit dodgy. When she started she was in a house in alberton. then got moved to an office, but she was the only one in the office besides her bosses wife. so it was a real small scale operation. i dont think they could afford her anymore or her position became redundant so they tried to force her out. anyways shes looking in the johannesburg south area.

Its always difficult without knowing. We just had a chat on another thread and basically if a charge was laid against her, she has a bit of a problem. I would really go and see a recruitment company and be TOTALLY honest with them regarding everthing. If she is not honest with them she stands the chance of them finding out the hard way and then they will not help her ever again to find a job. Once again as we have said on the other thread - she has to start at the bottom to gain some sort of experience. My wifes website is www.2hrs.co.za . She is based in Boksburg and may be able to help out.

              gordo,

What can this woman do? Admin? Data capturing?

I would advertise on Gumtree. Yes, I know, but it's a start. Maybe someone there can help her out with a part-time job, so at least SOME income is coming in.

thats not a bad idea. she was an office admin, she worked on pastel, she did debtors and creditors, dealt with clients. but she only was only there for a year so i guess it doesnt count for much. il put up an add for her on gumtree and see where it takes me.

That's plenty - good enough to get interviews, for sure.

Make sure it's in the CV.

She was employed and was never trained. Depending on the time frame and what her contract stated and remember it can be a verbal contract, the CCMA may be able to aid again. Normally these things do take time.

Also lastly go to the labour department and talk to someone there. I do know they are running skills development programs at the moment and there are a lot of options available. It is worth checking out.
