Working in today’s economy presents a number of challenges for employees. It takes more effort to stand out because more is at stake than ever before. While earlier reports this year indicated the economy is getting out of the recession, revised figures for the first quarter of 2011 from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis show that the economy is performing worse than expected. For many employees, this means:
* The number of promotions has stagnated or declined in many industries.
* More employees are vying for top positions in companies than in previous years.
* Hiring internally is becoming the norm.
