Driver licence testing

If you get a code 10 driver's licence, you can drive cars and unarticulated trucks - right.

If you get a code 08 driver's licence, you can drive cars, but not trucks. So code 08 is the "lesser" licence in the pecking order of assumed driving skills.

In trying to get one of my staff sorted with a drivers licence, it has been pointed out that it's better to go for the code 10 because it's a much easier test - and you get to drive cars anyway.

Am I the only one that finds this wierd?

What I'd like to know is in what way it is "easier" than a code 08 license? Is it the actual test that is easier/different, or are the examiners just more reasonable?

Apparently they don't have to do any of the parking stuff.

My wife mentioned to me that this was the case (some old work colleagues were going to do code 10 to avoid the parking).

Any idea whether that encompasses all parking, or just parallel? I can't imagine a person with a small truck license not being required to alley dock.

And I always thought the yard stuff was the easy bit, just practice and you've got it waxed.
