This might be a mission as their website is truly busy, but simply go to www.cipro.co.za you can register it on their website in a simple process. They also give you detailed info on how it works.

You're not kidding. I was trying to renew company registrations on Friday afternoon when the CIPRO server crashed - I was not amused

We normally charge people R750 on-top of the actual costs to do anything on Cipro's site, simply because it takes a very long time to get anything done. I also have a suspicion that it isn't because it is so busy but because they have faulty systems. You can go on there at 1 in the morning and it will still be a mission of some sorts.

I have just gone down the route of trademarking our logo.It seems to be a very long process.I have only applied for trademarking in SA.

I used Adams & Adams in Westville.Pretty good so far,now just to wait for the 18 - 36 months.

In hindsight I should have applied 3 years ago. It's only when others start ripping off your goods that you take notice.

              Good luck

              Regards
              Rory

                Adams & Adams

                Hi all

Adams &Adams are specialist in the trademark business and very good. They also have offices all over so getting personal attention from them won't be too difficult.

Unfortunately CIPRO is the only place for trademark registration and the other unfortunate is that they are very slow (with everything) they have to do.

a positive thought to pass the time for the lengthy approval process with Cipro is that registration of a patent (which is handled by the same guys at Cipro) takes even longer.

Also remember that if your application is in and you are sure your logo is unique, you will be granted the trademark. If you find anyone else using the logo (or very similar) your application date will determine who was the first to use the logo.

                Good luck

                Stefan

About R11-12K for two trademarks for South Africa only and under only one class. This cost could go up if there are any challenges from other companies using a similar logo.

We have been using our logo for many years so I don't see any problems, although there have been some similar logo's that came up in the search.

I will just have to wait and see.

                    Regards
                    Rory

I can advise you not to use 'Johnny Walker' it has been taken.
