[Question] How does South Africa's tech scene compare to the rest of the world?

I am interested in technology, especially tech solutions that fulfil a proper human need for convenience, health or progress.
South Africa seems to lag behind our US and Euro counterparts a bit in this space.
I would like to know what is missing, what needs there are & how we can help South Africans match our overseas rivals and more.
