    [Question] Trading As and CPA

Hi All, I want to confirm something about using 'Trading As' and the registration of companies with the CIPC. From what I understand, the CPA dictates that you need to register any name as a company that you intend on using for commercial purposes. So you can't register a company called 'AAA Things' and then have two companies called 'ABC Baby Stuff' and 'XYZ Car Dealers' by making use of 'Trading As' from the first company you registered. If I have that part right, then what is the route to have multiple companies that do unrelated business? Would it be to register one company for each business you intend on operating? If that's the case, I guess you will be running separate financial records for each one too? Thanks, KK

As of the beginning of this year, it seems the requirement for registration of defensive names in terms of the CPA has still not had an effective date set by the Minister as yet.
