[Question] Barcodes

Hello,

Looking for some insight into how barcodes are handled by retailers in SA.

*Is there a specific system we use in SA
*Are bar codes unique through out the world or only in the country \ used system
*Do some retailers use different barcodes system in SA from the standard - I read some of the larger retailers use different systems...
*How do retailers handle products that are not barcoded \ has no bar code

Any other info would be awesome...
