Do what people complain about all the time...crime for example...people are scared so they use up all their resources to protect their families...get in on the action while its still hot...anything to do with security is good business...for example every man and his dog are installing cctv kits...you can buy them cheap cheap cheap and do hit and run projects to make a few bob to keep you going while you find another source of income...just dont get caught up in the "system" overdrafts and credit card debt...we all make this mistake and when times are tough the system has no pity for you and your problems they just want their money to fuel the system...so many companies get caught up in it which results in the 95 % fail rate of business in SA...its not recess that kills business...its the debt to the system that kills a business.

The fact that cctv cameras cant identify most criminals is not import...it makes people feel a sense of security...at least they get to watch the movie afterwards....take their money while they still think its a solution to preventing crime.

If your margins allow, perhaps get on the Black Friday train. People will be inclined to buy stuff which they would not have bothered to buy otherwise, so there might be an opportunity there.

Your comments are nice to read but at the end of the day I have not received any useful information on how to keep my business afloat.

To keep your business afloat, money going out has to keep pace with money coming in. If you can't move the dial on money coming in, you have no choice but to make the needed adjustments to the money going out. Cutting expenditure, especially overheads is way more unpleasant than doing stuff that generates more income, but invariably it is the part you have more direct control over.

Sure, don't stop looking for ways to increase sales. But while you're doing that, don't neglect taking the needed steps to sort out the expenditure side of the equation.

I have seen most of the owners of small business look for a job when there is slump in there business. My former boss did the same when there were not many clients left with her so she cut her losses and start a job to recover while her business manager was running her business.

thats why smart people do 2 things...put the dvr in a secure locations...and leave a dud unit next to the tv.

use a wireless hdmi to view so that the dvr can be put i a safe place where people cant get to it.

now with network cabling being used...it makes it a little easier to hide

At the end of the day...you have to do what it takes to survive...focusing on something different...even if it is only a temporary solution for right now.

Yes, you absolutely right. Doing what it takes to survive is a real harsh reality.

Yes, this political climate is surely not helping at all.

Yes, it's always good to have a positive attitude. It does help one to carry on.

However, a poor economy doesn’t have to force you to close your doors. In fact, you can prosper even in rough times simply by being mindful of what is going on around you and in your market.
