When will South African banks accept Google Pay?

There's such a great demand for quicker, more instant pay methods, but South Africa is still way behind on the instant payment methods like Google Pay/Google Wallet. There are articles on this dating way back to 2015 like https://www.fin24.com/Tech/News/Appl...banks-20150618 , yet there is still little progress on the part of our local banks?

It would be an asset to the eCommerce world. If you could pay online with GooglePay there'd be little to no security risks at all for online buyers.

P.S. (disclaimer) Maybe I'm missing something because I've been out of SA for almost 5 years, and things could change. Although I've been checking the news I can't say for sure what's going on back there. I plan to move back to SA within the next few months and it'd be a little unfortunate if I needed to revert back to the old fashion ways...

I don't see it coming to SA at least for next 3 to 4 years. I've seen payment processing getting improved in SA but it still needs some huge improvement when we talk about Google Pay.
