Just come from Standard Bank Durban North now. I was planning to do an over-the-counter deposit (which I have to do every now and then when someone uses a sketchy PAYEE name on the cheque), but the usually deserted banking hall was absolutely full of people.

Amazing - when the gremlins creep into the machines, you actually realise what trying to do business in a bank might be like without them.

An excellent example of why you should have a back up card with another bank - even a different card company eg visa/mastercard.

        Small business banking

Good to see nobody else was affected by lost time and money today. I seem to be the only one who actually lost money today. The other concern is how many people knocked FNB today when people commented about people moving to FNB. Nobody knocked Nedbank.

I do not believe that one bank is better than the other as everyone has different needs and business operations. I said it before and I say it again that all our 4 major banks are the same. I the one does not screw you today the other one will do so. So you can try then all four and I am sure you will be most unhappy with each and every one at some stage as they just take turns to screw you.

Try another server number. e.g. if https://www9.encrypt.standardbank.co...nternetBanking is not working replace the '9' with any other one or two digit number. That worked for me in the past

Hm, now I am stuck myself. I can log in, but most functions give me:
This session has encountered an exception error – Please login again.

No improvement after logging in again. Tried to send secure message to complain, get same error.
Do you have the same problem or something different?

Looks like a backup bank is becoming a necessity!

They probably should say "please try again later" - I suspect it is server load related.

I've come across this particular error quite regularly at what, up until now, I have regarded as probably a busy time for their servers - about 7.30a.m. to 9.00a.m. when lots of companies (myself included) dive in to get provisional statements to check payments received from the day before.

I never had this before. I could get in, but could not transact much. So if servers are overloaded would I still get in?
Sounds more like the usual "they do know what they are doing" problem.

Closed some of my accounts at standard bank today...will have my new business account opened tomorrow at FNB. Going to run one business using FNB and the other business i am going to leave at standard for now. Will see what FNB is all about while i wait for standard banks revised offer.

If FNB can offer what they advertise and fees are less, then in 3 months time i move everything from standard to FNB.

I have been taking note of customers and suppliers bank accounts, there seem to be a lot more of absa and fnb accounts. Very few people i deal with use standard or nedbank

Good luck with FNB. How did you migrate all your beneficiaries to FNB without having to recapture all?

                            They do it for you.

Wow, do you know how? Is Standard Bank letting them into their systems then to get them out? I doubt that. Please tell me how that works, because I has asked Stranded bank how I can export the beneficiaries and they said its not possible. I am sure it is, but they do not know how or do not want to tell me.

Just had a lengthy call with a FNB regional manager about this FICA nonsense.

FICA needs to be renewed annually e.g. proof of residence since 2003 already. This obviously was never really done. He said since recently SARB is clamping down and fined all banks for non compliance. FNB R10 Mio, Stranded R16 Mio etc. That is why they slowly wake up now and harass us even more. So far I just told any caller to email me the legal basis in which they want all this or go away. They opted to go away. Only FNB is starting to become more persistent now.
I wonder what is cheaper for the banks, the fine or annual FICA pains.

OK more red tape, just here the banks hurt by denying access to your accounts.
I recently had a customer saying they have to FICA me so we can get paid. I asked them to send me the relevant laws as I would then have to do it to my customers. I am still waiting for this.
Just imagine you want to sell to a customer but you have to FICA them first.
