Light steel frame building in South Africa

This one is specifically for Duncan, the engineerial wizz. A couple of nights ago, while burning the midnight oil with paperwork my eye caught a glance at the Home Channel on DSTV. They interviewed a chap from South Africa who was into erecting commercial and residential dwellings with light steel frames. They also gave the website as www.sasfa.co.za .

Can anyone please comment on the viability and pricing when making use of this type of building and indicate where one can find out more about it. Might be an avenue worth exploring as they mention on their site that : "Reduced wastage, lower logistical costs and reduced time of construction could offer cost savings of 20% or more, compared with conventional building."

I've noticed this in commercial construction. I can't say I've seen it for domestic housing, though.

This type of construction is very popular in Queensland, Australia where I have seen it. I do not know about the other states. An internet search focused on Australia may just be worth it.

I wouldnt say it is popular ... but I have seen a few building being assembled ... using this light frame (similar to dry wall framing).

I was wondering how they water proof the boarding ... I suppose it is the same method used in the USA to water proof the houses.

McDonalds were using it to build new restaurants and basically due to price and speed of install
Seemed to work quite well , we did the electricals on 2 or 3 of them
