The looming public-service strike seems like it's going to reach quite far. I've got a meeting in Pretoria tomorrow which is affected.

It looks like there's going to be no-one below management level at work for the public service tomorrow (other than critical services personnel).

If you've got any business to do with gov, best try to get it done today.

I am in PTA and I shudder to think what tomorrow is going to be like for people trying to access the inner city.

This public service strike is getting quite interesting.

First we see a fair amount of positioning from the two parties in the media.

Second, public servants have been on a go-slow since the 25th May, with the strike itself commencing on the 1st June - and the comment has been that no-one has noticed.

Third, the strike has been most effective in the health and education sectors - most other departments seem to be largely unscathed so far.

It looks like things are really getting ugly at hospitals - a sector that really is precluded from aggressive strike tactics.

In a fascinating shift in demographics, the only person out on strike at the department I was meeting with on Friday was a white male member of staff. Everyone else had reported for duty.
