    Never mind, I found it.

The Minimum Wage for the Hospitality Sector (including hotels, guest houses and restaurants) has been increased by 7,4% by the Department of Labour from today, and is now R2240,60 per month for businesses with 10 or fewer employees, and R 2495,80 for businesses with more than 10 employees.

The increase is on 1 July every year, and the increase was higher than the 5,2% last year due to the higher Consumer Price Index at 6,4% currently.

Actually, millions of people live on that and less. And you deal with them every day of your life from petrol attendants, retail staff and most restaurant staff. We have an over supply of labour and at least the minimum wage keeps some semblance of order, but push the minimum wage up to around R3500 and expect to see 1000's of jobs lost.

I take comments like this personal. I know it is little, but what can I do? The system makes it impossible to trade and pay more. Around every corner is a government hand or some other hand stretched out and just want more and more. Every second month I must digg into my bond, hoping things improve. Municipal fees is exorbitant and now Eskom wants even more! On the other hand the municipal accounts is haywire and we reached a deadlock in dispute with them wanting R46000 for an account that should be R8000 at the ridiculous high rate. So I must now photograph meters just to be able to work out what I should pay.

One must also consider all the help they get from government, child fees and grants, etc. My son is taking home R7500 and he is running his own business. His customers laugh at him, asking him the same question: Who the F can live on that? So, at night he has to supplement by doing tatoos.

I used to supplement my monthly salary by doing wall tiling jobs after hours and weekends, hard work but rewarding, especially if you got paid just before a long weekend.
