A business plan must also be realistic. Look at your mission statement. You can not become the best or the biggest if you are a small one man operation in Putsonderwater. But you can raise your game to compete with the best.

You can not be the number one player in the industry if your manufacturing capacity does not allow you to supply more than say 10% of the market. Your business plan may then include a 5 year plan to aquire the necessary equipment and resources to eventually give yourself a chance to become no 1.

If you set yourself unrealistic goals, you become disheartened and will eventually lose interest. Set small, achievable goals and reward yourself every time you reach that goal. This keeps the motivation going and will lead to more success as you will be in a winning and positive frame of mind. And as Dave rightfully said, don't repeat the same mistakes. If it does not work, change your plan. Get advice, do something different.
