There are many companies offering to build your website for free, however, mostly have a catch in that you have to host adverts for them. There is a refreshing way of building a website without having to be an advertising medium. Simply use Kompozer, which is free of charge. The learning curve on Kompozer is not steep and it is even more simpler if you have a coach
Something to add to this tip, you can also get a jumpstart by searching for "free HTML templates" which you then can edit in Kompozer which is like Word for websites.
Of course, you will be limited to simple websites but its a good way to start without spending lots of time and money and there are some great free templates out there.
You can then move onto more professional and paid-for templates. Just saw one I want to use for $14.

Yes i agree, Kompozer is a simple free way to start out as a website owner, you can add text and images and create web pages for your: about us, contact etc., pages. And it is clean, no adverts!
Here's a link to an article that gives advice how to get everything for free (without advertising). From a free.za.net domain name, to free hosting, to using Kompozer, to getting free stock images.
