Bid or buy - have you tried it?

Our much smaller ebay clone, saffer style - but has it worked for you? I have, over a few years tried it twice. Both timess I was underwhelmed, but did get a sale or two. Commissions seem quite high, but might be worth making a serious attempt as an extra money earner.

I've bought a few websites on Bid or Buy. It all went smoothly enough, but then I did research each purchase and the seller quite carefully first.

I've found the affiliate program pretty underwhelming. Certainly doesn't pay anything close to the percentages that eBay does.

Never tried to sell anything on Bid or Buy.

BoB Rocks - We sell on BoB all th time and use it as an effective indicator of fair market value. We trade on BoB and Ebay all the time.

I think it also might be a case of having good feedback - the better the feedback the more sales...I know the times I have bought I have looked a lot on feedback. Maybe a good way of getting the ball going is letting a few products go at very low prices. get the good feedback in then start taking better margins?

adrianh do you auction items or just use a straight selling price?

We use both. We make a point of letting all our clients know that we start 10% down on the going price for auctions. Some clients immediately place a bid. They feel that they get a bargain at 10% down and if the price goes up then they loose noting. This way we get to sell most of the stuff that we put up for sale. We use straight selling prices if it isn't a product that we feel people would chase. People go crazy for some things but not for others. We also make a point of never put multiples of the same item up for auction. People need to believe that it is a 1 in million deal. Another thing that I have seen people do wrong is to drop the price week after week if a product doesn't sell. Buyers watch for this and wait it out till the price is low enough.

The best is to keep an eye on the Hot Selling items in your field and closely watch the starting and ending prices. You get a feel for what peole like and what they are willing to pay.

Thanks for that. I think I will put some one-offs pairs of shoes up there on auction and get some good feed back going. BTW just looked at my very dorment account (haven't used it for over a year), and see I am in credit for 579.95...nice

I've purchased via them without any problems, never sold. I think underwhelming is about the right word for our local ebay.

Had VERY bad experience.

Paid, but got no delivery.

Their interest and action was underwhelming - despite NUMEROUS complaints against the seller (same type of issue - he was a bloody liar) they continued to rate him as great, and never did anything about pressurising him. They ignorted all my emails and complaints until I used hellopeter.com.

Swore I would NEVER do it through them again.
