looking for online invoicing system, for tool rentals

Hi all,

I'm looking for a (preferably free) PHP+ MySQL based invoicing script to use for a tool rental business.

I basically want to rent out book and give the client an invoice.

A client comes and wants to rent a tool (for example), from Monday to Wednesday, so we need to book out the tool from that time period. Some tools are limited and only have 1 copy per storeroom. So I need to show tool availability online.

Payment gateway integration isn't a must, but it could be nice to add a credit card gateway via some API, or something. But it's rather important to be able to give the client an invoice and also show which tool was lent out and for which period.

I have an equipment rental business and was looking for something similar a while ago as well, unfortunately to no avail. There are a few paid options, but you're going to have to rent out a stack of tools to warrant the cost.

Perhaps a consideration would be to have someone write the PHP for your specific requirements locally, which will probably be more cost effective.

In your title you say 'online' invoicing system, I'm not sure what you mean, must it be thin client?

Well, "online" generally means "on the web" A thin client is just a "tool", regardless of what application runs one it (yes, I know it's limited, but a thin client in this conversation is just another PC) so you might have mis-understood my needs.

I need something that I can install on one of our web servers, i.e. something like Modernbill / WHMCS / etc - which are geared towards the hosting market. They won't cater for my needs though.

I haven't found anything useful yet, but don't have the time to write my own either.

Have you looked into Freshbooks and CannyBill? Both are great options. There is also a wordpress plugin called "WP-Invoice" that can do some of the same features for free.
