Using Gmail: an issue with the gmail display

    Hi,

We use Google for Business. In my inbox I have a vertical split screen as you would in most mail clients.

However the pane to the far right, which shows the full email, has what can only be described as a blank white section to the right hand side in which nothing is displayed. I.e. the display is incorrectly sized (its not wide enough) because of an unused piece of screen. Not sure if this makes sense, or if anyone has a solve??

Im not sure why anyone still uses a g mail e mail address. With modern technology e mail adds can be accessed anywhere, they are more professional for business and costs as little as R24.50 per month.

I'm not sure how anyone has the time during the day to respond unhelpfully to questions on the internet.

Guess life is full of mysteries.

          Hi,

Yes I do. attached. You can see to the right hand side of the message the blank white space is unused while the message is "cramped" to the left hand side

Yep life is full of mysteries ............... but I do know its called good time management and if you think that telling someone that you can pay R24.50 for a professional e mail address is unhelpfull............. then you carry right on with your g mail address.

I use web-based Gmail as well (with my domain email address as an alias), and I've only just noticed that I have the same white space on the right-hand side, like you!

I've never been aware of it until you mentioned it.

Guess it's a design feature/fault, or maybe space for Google to insert contextual adverts???

What size screen do you use and is this on all screens you use or only a certain one should you use multiple?

                  I'm using a 13in MacBook.

The other day I logged in using another sized screen on another PC and same thing.

Yeah, by default the "People Widget" sits there but even when you disable that the white space remains unused.

There's a line of thought that allowing text content to go too wide makes it more tiring to read. So some liquid formats set a limit on the maximum width it'll flex to.

My personal view is leave it in the hands of the user to resize the window they're working in to suit their preferences (which is why TFSA uses a full liquid format), but it's probably a coin toss as to which is the better (more considerate/user friendly?) approach, really.
