    Tax Practical Handbook

Has anybody bought this yet? Is it helpful?
I work at a recording studio - we are a pretty small company and do the accounting in house except for the year end. struggling to find good resources - I saw this on TV and was wondering if anybody has actually purchased it and put it to good use?

    Hi Jenna, welcome to TFSA

Could you give us the full name and author of the book? There could be a hundred different "Tax handbooks".

What parts of tax do you tend to struggle with in your company?

I have a pretty good understanding of all the aspects one of the majors i did at university was Accounting - although my key focus at the studio is production. I therefore don't really have time to keep up to date with new legislature etc....
So was looking for something that was all encompassing - VAT, Provisional tax, Income tax, PAYE, UIF

I bought the Labour Law Practical Handbook by Fleet Street Publications some years ago. I can't say there was much in there that was a startling revelation, and the continuous teaser* upsells for the update and newsflash services were rather a PITA.

Maybe the tax version will be a little different, but I have to pay my auditors anyway and they track this sort of stuff for me effectively for free. And hanging around TFSA picking up tips along the way is far more fun.

*I expect they call them teasers - i.m.o. it was blow-things-out-of-proportion scare selling.

Hi there, We have all of these Practical Tax Handbooks, as well as the Practical VAT handbook - they are very very usefull, they explain stuff in a way that even the most junior person will understand and they give nice examples. I would really recommend these books - they also send you updates every year so that you can just slot it in to the sections where it belongs.
