At last! Pastel's Pervasive SQL to be replaced by MS SQL!

I am a very happy and excited Pastel consultant!

Today I received an email from Softline Pastel, announcing that they will be embarking on a major technological project in the new year to rewrite their Pastel Xpress and Pastel Partner range, based on the MS SQL database. Gone will be the days of the outdated, finnicky and frustrating Pervasive SQL database system!

I have been invited to attend workshops and complete surveys, as Pastel will use the opportunity of re-designing the features of these two packages, due to the complete recoding of the software to run on MS SQL. I have also been requested to invite some of my clients to join me at the workshops.

I cannot wait for 2012!

You do realise that if they actually succeed at making it into a good product, there'll be less demand for the services of Pastel Consultants to fix broken db's, configure templates, find missing logo files etc.

But then my income from fixing all those irritating bugs will be replaced (and surpassed) by sales of the superior product!

Any news on Pastel Partner running on SQL ?

I was wondering if you had any news with regards to Pastel Partner possibly running on SQL. To the best of my knowledge from what I can see, its only evolution and my business that can? Or is there a way to run Partner 14 on SQL.

Unfortunately my enthusiasm has since been replaced by disappointment. Apparently the person leading the development program is no longer, and the entire program has been put on ice...

Based on my experience, I would say that Pastel's sell by date had expired at least 10 years ago.

if i recall correctly, someone once told a story in them pastel offices, of when the product was first introduced, the then tech lead, shook hands, and got a nice under the table from pervasive for something like a 20 year deal ( this could also just be a load of crap) but i cant see any reason why they would stay with this outdated , buggy, disaster of a so called "database"

even sqllite would do a better job of it
