[Question] Pastel and Pervasive SQL to PowerBI

Im using Excel and lately PowerBI to query tables in Pastel. Its incredibly valuable to be able to see our business visually.

My question relates to the 32 / 64 bit incompatibility which is giving me some headaches.
I access Pastel via an ODBC source (32 bit, as PSQL is 32bit).
Thus the 32 bjt PowerBI has to be installed to be able to use a 32bit data source.

Problem is, it crashes erratically and often.

When I do a data dump to excel and access the same data with 64bit PowerBi, it’s stable.

My model uses the “history lines” table (about 500’000 lines) and the “supplier master” and a few other smaller tables.

So my question: is there anyone else doing similar analytics with live Pastel data?
If so, do you have any advice to my problem? Or possibly a total different strategy to visualize Pastel data in a live environment?

    Thanx Marius

It might be Pervasive that is causing the problem...

Maybe using MS Access? Create the linked tables (not imported) in an Access db with PVSW 32 bit odbc engine, define your primary keys, and check you have the right data. You can use windows task scheduler to execute a VBS script at a desired frequency to refresh the Access databases without having to go into it manually and refresh the data. Draw the power BI query off the access db.

There are 64 bit ODBC drivers, but only for the client server versions of PVSW - quite an expensive upgrade path if you only running workgroup.
