    [Question] Pastel Slow Server

    Hello
I hope I'm posting this on the right sub forum

I need some help with a pastel server

The company i work for recently upgraded there PCs from very very old windows 7 Machines to modern Windows 10 machines
proper CPUs and SSDs so i know the hardware isn't the problem

I set up the pastel server (On the old machines it was using HOME GROUP) there are 4 machines in total
one server and 3 others working on the same company
and they are all wire connected through a TP link router

now the server pc is extremely fast, faster than it has ever been
but the 3 other pc's are really really slow
especially on pastel start up and searching for stock
even slower on the old windows 7 machines

any solution would be greatly appreciated

    thank you

Just two things i could comment on:

    1. Hope your network is all gigabit enabled.. makes a huge difference but would depend on your router/switch.
    2. We had a a problem where client machines in the office were extremely slow to open up a company or search lists... it turned out to be the antivirus software on the server machine. So not sure what you using.

I agree with Krono9 on the antivirus issue - check that proper exclusions are set on the workstations re scanning both the mapped drive and server UNC path where the Pastel data is stored on the server.
Another "funny" that makes pastel slow is the printers. In Pastel, File ... printer font setup - for each user, document, report, etc - make sure that they are now set to a printer that is installed on the network/their machine. When processing or printing, Pastel looks for the printer settings - if an old printer that is not installed on the new machines is still setup there, Pastel searches the network for the printer, before defaulting back to windows default printer. This can really slow things down.

        Kaspersky
I won't be surprised if that is the problem
what would be the solution for it?

Right click kaspersky icon in taskbar as disable the antivirus temporarily on both client and server and do a test if the speed is different. Otherwise it might be something else.

The start up was still a little slow
but it seemed like searching for stock was much faster

tomorrow i'll disable kasperksy again for a while and let everyone carry on as usual
they'll let me know if general use has sped up

thank you both for the help today, i'll report back with what they tell me tomorrow

They say it has its moments of slowness
one second it loads stock and quotes instantly other times it takes a minute or two to load anything
starting up the company takes a while aswell

so i assume its not kaspersky

i had a look at the router its TP link 300Mbps Wireless N ADSL2+ Modem Router TD-W8960N, not sure if that is the problem but they have had this router for a while even when the network was faster

Are they all on wired network and not wireless?

                          Hopefully with gigabit ethernet ports!
