    Accounting Package Recommendations

    Hello,

Looking for recommendations on an accounting package.

Something easy to use, affordable and preferably with out yearly licensing.

Main reasons at this point will be for invoicing customers and drawing reports on the invoices\sales.

Future expansion availability to do all round general record keeping will be a plus.

    Thanks in advance.

Some basic inventory control will also be great!

I take it you're looking for something less obvious/mainstream than Quickbooks or Pastel.

Hi Dave, if they have a simple offering if that makes any sense for SME's I don't mind looking at them.

Quickbooks is the no.1 best selling accounting software in the world - and I reckon for good reason.

There are outright purchasing options and there are a number of different packages ranging from very simple to pretty advanced (so there is a growth path for growing businesses). Like most larger software outfits nowadays, they're pumping up their cloud solutions. But scroll down for the desktop package offerings...

Anyone using Quickbooks that can tell me how effective the Pro package inventory \ stock control is?

I would highly recommend Xero, it is a cloud based application that can be upgraded depending on your current requirements and includes a basic inventory module.

Looks abit pricey compared to the quick books once off purchase at the cheapest option I would be able to use ($30 per month) as I need it mainly for invoicing

I would support the recommendation to use Xero. It is a cloud-based solution which means that it available on any device anywhere. It has a monthly subscription, and if you go through a Xero partner, it has various 'flavours', and pricing options which makes it very scalable. Whilst it may not yet be the predominant accounting software in the world, it is growing rapidly. Consider this: awarded 'most innovative growth company in the world" - two years running - by Forbes. 16,000+ partners. 700+ add on solutions; processed more than $1 trillion worth of transactions in the last 12 months. It has a robust project management, and more importantly for you a very stron invoicing and inventory solution. There is a trial version available, so I suggest you take a look. Regards

I see quick books has a annual renewal fee which is almost as much as purchasing the package initially which makes the online\cloud versions work out almost the same cost wise. Must be a sales tactic to move people over to the cloud versions.

If you are referring to a desktop version then no, you are mistaken there is no annual fee. You pay once and it is updated free of charge.

You are correct, as I was looking into it - I see the annual fee is for a quickperks license for updates etc...

                            hi
I am a reseller for Quickbooks.
The pro is not as effective in tracking inventory as the Premier if you have a large inventory.
I would suggest you try the online /cloud version. You pay a monthly fee which ranges from R199 to R411.00 a month depending on the package you choose. It can be used on various mobile devices. No worries about backing up or updating.

Thanks ANU, do you know the difference between what types of discounts you can apply to invoices \ products in Pro vs Premier?
