    [Question] Pastel alternative?

    Hi Guys

Am about to launch my pastel out of the window (don't even ask- been coming for years now!).... just want to get a feel of what other accounting systems people are working on and whether they are happy with their systems? We use stock grv's, multi-stores as well as manufacturing

LOL ..... excellent move .....Neville Bailey would not agree with you. I use good old Quickbooks - simple, straightforward no hassle

Thanks HR Solutions... was looking into that earlier. Used Quickbooks yonks ago and wasn't that great but they seem to be very much up to speed these days! Looking at what their products offer according to their website, they look like an exact replica of pastel (hopefully a functioning replica! lol)

Thankfully we finally have a Pastel trained staff member. I had to fight the software before she came along.
Never tried it, but heard good reports about IQ Retail .
Used QuickBooks before Pastel and regretted the change from day 1.

About a year and a half ago I was going to change to Pastel, but after a bit of research and seeing all the questions/complaints on the forum etc etc - I decided to stick with QB. Our auditors would prefer we use Pastel but we have come to a good understanding now

How about SAP? Is anyone using SAP?
I'm using pastel but find that it's not easy to customise to one's own business needs

Omni Accounts is another one to look at. Only pay for the features you use. Quite a wide range of features too.
Smartedge, if you want to go the purely online route.
Both are South African products or versions, which means local conditions such as our VAT reports are catered for.

The upfront set-up costs of SAP pretty much blows it out the water when it comes to SME's, I reckon. The cheapest quote I got two years ago was an initial R230k (excl. VAT) to get things going, and then 20% of that per annum as the annual maintenance cost.
                Participation is voluntary.

Yep, I just realised after getting a quote for setup close to R500k !!!!! and close to R 40k monthly fee.
